OAU Retains Continental Title at 2026 SPE Africa PetroBowl Championship
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has emerged champion of the 2026 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Africa Region PetroBowl Championship, successfully defending its continental title and reaffirming its position as one of Africa's leading institutions in petroleum education.
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) has emerged champion of the 2026 Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Africa Region PetroBowl Championship, successfully defending its continental title and reaffirming its position as one of Africa's leading institutions in petroleum education.
The University's five-member team, drawn primarily from the Department of Chemical Engineering and the Department of Geology, outperformed universities from across Africa to clinch the championship held in Kenya.

The victorious team comprised:
- Oluwanifemi Oladunjoye, a 500-level Chemical Engineering student and team captain.
- Quadri Quadri Adekunle, a 300-level Chemical Engineering student.
- Amoo Covenant, a 500-level Chemical Engineering student.
- Folusho Mercy, a 300-level Chemical Engineering student.
- Taiwo Mary Ajayi, a 400-level Geology student.
The victory reinforces Obafemi Awolowo University's continued excellence in petroleum education and its dominance in petroleum knowledge competitions across the African continent.
