OAU VC Commends Students' Support Amid EFCC Raid on Peers
The Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Prof. Simeon Bamire, has expressed his appreciation for the solidarity shown by other students of the institution toward their fellow peers who were apprehended by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) during a recent raid on several off-campus hostels along Ife/Ibadan Road.
In an official statement released by the university's Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olanrewaju, the Vice Chancellor shared his thoughts on the incident, highlighting the positive actions taken by both the university's management and the students.
The statement reads: "Following the proactive efforts of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State's management, which dispatched representatives to the Ibadan zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to mediate on behalf of the detained students, the EFCC has released 59 of the students."
While expressing gratitude to the EFCC for their swift response in profiling and releasing the students in less than 24 hours, Prof. Simeon Bamire called for enhanced collaboration between the EFCC and various higher education institutions. He proposed the organization of workshops targeting students across different faculties to raise awareness about the perils of financial crimes and cyber criminal activities.

The Vice Chancellor also appealed to the students who experienced the raid to put the incident behind them and move forward with their lives.
