OBACO Condemns EFCC Operation at Obafemi Awolowo University, Calls for Immediate Student Release
In a distressing turn of events, the Olalere Benedict Adetunji Campaign Organization (OBACO) has expressed its strong condemnation of the recent actions by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) directed at students of Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile Ife.
OBACO received alarming reports on the 1st of November 2023, detailing a forceful operation carried out by EFCC operatives against a substantial number of off-campus students at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife. Eyewitnesses verified that the operation was initiated in the dead of night, and it took hours to forcibly enter the students' apartments, where many were subsequently taken away in buses provided by the operatives.
The campaign organization has voiced its strong disapproval of the unprofessional and insensitive manner in which this anti-graft agency conducted its operation, emphasizing the need for a higher level of professionalism.
While recognizing the necessity of combatting criminal elements in society, OBACO firmly asserts that students who are engaged in legitimate activities, and focusing on their studies, should not be subjected to such traumatic experiences due to unprofessional methods of operation.

The campaign organization believes that the EFCC should have conducted thorough intelligence work and collaborated with the university's management and security department before forcibly entering students' residences, apprehending them, and confiscating their belongings.
OBACO is now calling for the immediate and unconditional release of all affected students, along with the swift return of their confiscated possessions. The organization has reached out to key figures, including President Sen. Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, Director General of the State Security Service Mr. Yusuf Magaji Bichi, Minister of Education Prof. Tahir Mamman, Governor of Osun State Sen. Ademola Adeleke, and all stakeholders in the Nigerian education sector, urging them to take prompt action to secure the students' release and address this concerning situation.
