Chancellor of Ekiti State University (EKSU), Tunji Olowolafe, has said that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is implementing one of the most ambitious and far-reaching education reform programmes in Nigeria’s history,

Tunji Olowolafe made this assertion on Saturday during the inauguration of a state-of-the-art Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre at EKSU by Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, as part of her one-day working visit to Ekiti State.

The ICT facility was delivered through a partnership involving the Renewed Hope Initiative, the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), and the Ekiti State Government. It is designed to strengthen digital learning, innovation, and technological capacity in tertiary institutions.

Speaking at the event, the EKSU Chancellor described the project as a landmark investment in the future of students, noting that it reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to advancing education and promoting technological development.

According to him, the new centre will give students the competitive edge and practical digital skills required to succeed in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.

“We are here to open a door to digital literacy, digital fluency and the kind of practical, future-ready education that our students need to compete and lead, not just in Nigeria, but across the world,” Olowolafe said.

He added that it was “historic and heartwarming” that EKSU’s long-standing aspiration for a world-class ICT facility was being realised under the Tinubu administration through interventions facilitated by the First Lady and the Renewed Hope Initiative.

Olowolafe further highlighted key policy achievements of the administration, including the allocation of ₦3.52 trillion to education in the 2025 federal budget, describing it as evidence of government’s determination to reposition the sector.

He also praised the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), describing it as a transformative intervention aimed at removing financial barriers to higher education.

“For too long, financial hardship has placed a ceiling on intellectual potential in our country. Brilliant young Nigerians have remained at home, not because they lacked ability, but because they lacked the financial means to pursue higher education. NELFUND was a direct response to this injustice,” he said.

Earlier, while inaugurating the ICT Centre, the First Lady emphasized the importance of technology in national development, stressing the need to prepare Nigerian youths for the global digital economy.

“This partnership with TETFund under the Renewed Hope Initiative is designed to improve educational opportunities and equip young Nigerians with relevant digital skills for the future,” she said.

She added that the facility would serve as a hub for digital learning, research, and innovation, while also promoting creativity, entrepreneurship, and practical skill acquisition among students.
