The Ondo State government has mandated that new students enrolling in public primary and secondary schools must provide specific items during their registration process. These items include a hoe, cutlass, broom, locker, chair, and file jackets.

Olaolu Akindolire, the state commissioner for education, science, and technology, issued a circular to inform school principals and headteachers of this new requirement. The circular, signed by the ministry’s permanent secretary, Folasade Adegoke, also warned against collecting any additional items or levies from prospective students beyond those approved by the state government.

According to the circular, the total fees for new intakes into primary schools are set at ₦5,000, while new intakes into secondary schools are to pay no more than ₦14,000. These fees cover various expenses, including PTA levy, examinations, ICT, sports development, utility, medical, security, entrepreneurship/agriculture, CASS, running expenses, and administrative charges for external examinations.

Mr. Akindolire emphasized that no school head is authorized to collect money for textbooks or uniforms. Instead, they are to provide parents and guardians with samples of recommended uniforms and a list of recommended books.

The state government has provided an approved list of collectables to all principals and headteachers to ensure compliance with these new regulations.
