Renowned philanthropist and community leader, Otunba Oluwadare Owolabi, has delivered the Maiden Annual Lecture of the Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies at Ekiti State University (EKSU), Ado-Ekiti. 

The lecture focused on the role of interdisciplinary approaches in driving grassroots development.

Themed “Multidisciplinary Studies as a Catalyst for Grassroots Development: Reflection from the Career and Experience of Oluwadare Owolabi,” the event attracted members of the university community, dignitaries, and students.

The Vice Chancellor of EKSU, Professor J. B. Ayodele, represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development), Professor Michael Oke, described multidisciplinary studies as a vital instrument for addressing complex societal challenges and fostering sustainable national development.

He said such academic initiatives promote collaboration, innovation, and practical solutions to real-world problems.

Professor Oke commended the Dean of the Faculty, Professor I. A. Ajayi, the guest lecturer, and all contributors for the success of the event. He expressed optimism that the annual lecture series would become a respected platform for intellectual engagement and academic excellence, and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to producing 21st-century-ready graduates.

In recognition of his lecture and contributions, Otunba Owolabi received awards from the faculty students and management. 

He also announced a donation of ₦5 million to the Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies to support its development initiatives.

The event was attended by the University Librarian, Mrs. Modupe Aboyale; the Dean, Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies, Professor I. A. Ajayi; ASUU Chairman, EKSU Chapter, Comrade A. I. Aguda; and the Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Olatunji, alongside other staff.

Otunba Owolabi was accompanied by the Onise of Odo Oro Ekiti, Babatunde Adebayo Jemilehin; Elder Dele Owolabi; Chief Ranti Adebisi; Mr. I. O. Akinleye; and Mr. Isaac Ojo, among others.

The maiden lecture marks a significant milestone for the Faculty of Multidisciplinary Studies, setting a foundation for future engagements that bridge academic knowledge with community development.
