Over 10 Students Injured in Suspected Cult Clash Between Kwara Secondary Schools

A violent clash between students from two secondary schools in the Adeta area of Ilorin left more than 10 students injured on Monday morning, November 19, 2024. The incident, believed to be linked to a long-standing cult-related rivalry, escalated into a brutal brawl, with injuries ranging from minor bruises to more severe wounds.

The altercation, which occurred around 11 a.m., involved students from Government High School and Government Day Secondary School, both located in the Adeta area. Sources suggest that the clash was a reprisal attack following a dispute that began almost two weeks ago.

In response to the incident, the Kwara State Government expressed deep concern over the violence. In a statement released on Wednesday, November 21, 2024, Hajia Sa'adatu Modibbo Kawu, the state’s Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, condemned the unruly behavior exhibited by students from both schools.

She criticized the schools' authorities for failing to immediately inform the Ministry of Education about the situation, further expressing dissatisfaction with the students' behavior.

The Commissioner assured the public that the state government would take action to prevent further violence, urging students to focus on their studies and avoid actions that could harm their future or damage the reputation of their families and the state. She called on both schools to foster peace and urged the students to serve as role models for others in the community.
