PET CDS Group Carries Out Orientation on HIV/AIDS

The Peer Educator Trainers Community Development Service group has organised a two days training for people in Osogbo. The training took place from Tuesday 18th to Wednesday 19th of July at the Osun State Agency for the Control of HIV /AIDS (O - SACA), Governor's Office, Osogbo.

The Peer Educator Trainers Community Development Service group has organised a two days training for people in Osogbo. The training took place from Tuesday 18th to Wednesday 19th of July at the Osun State Agency for the Control of HIV /AIDS (O - SACA), Governor's Office, Osogbo. 

Myschoolnews reports the training which was facilitated by Mr. Gabriel Olatunji, Mr. Adeyinka Adeleke and Mr. Abiodun Ojo held in an attempt to orientate people on the causes of HIV / AIDS, its implication on the immune system, preventive measures and its control.

According to the trainer, Dr. Akin Oyebade who stated that Human Immuno Deficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks the body's immune system while Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is the late stage of HIV infection that occurs when the body's immune system is badly damaged because of the virus. 

 

He furthered by highlighting the different causes of the infection which could be through sexual contact, sharing infected needles, contact with infected blood, or from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth or breastfeeding.

Dr. Akin thereby urged the trainees to protect themselves from contracting the virus through abstinence, proper use of male and female condoms, avoiding used needles and sterilizing clippers before barbing. 

 

He also implored them to always go for HIV test, as well trained the listeners on how to perform a self test so as to treat it in an early stage if infected.
