PLASU Receives First Female Deputy Vice Chancellor

Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has officially welcomed Associate Professor Keziah Ayuba as its first female Deputy Vice Chancellor. Her appointment, confirmed on September 26, 2024, marks a significant milestone for the university and its commitment to gender equality in academic leadership.

The Senate of PLASU made the historic appointment during a valedictory session honoring outgoing Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Prof. Moses Pyefa, and Associate Prof. Jurji Nengak Gomos. While Prof. Pyefa was unanimously reappointed for another two-year term, Prof. Gomos stepped down after serving two terms.

The motion to appoint Prof. Ayuba was introduced by Dr. Adepoju Adeyanju, receiving unanimous support from Senate members. Dr. Emmanuel Nnadi, who was also nominated, withdrew in favor of Ayuba, highlighting the collaborative spirit within the institution.

Presided over by Prof. Shedrack Best, Acting Vice Chancellor and Senate Chairman, the vote underscored the university's support for Ayuba's leadership. 

In her acceptance speech, Prof. Ayuba expressed her gratitude and commitment to advancing the university's mission and fostering an inclusive academic environment. Her appointment is anticipated to inspire more women to pursue leadership roles within academia.
