Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, took decisive action on Tuesday by relieving Prof. Bernard Matau of his duties as Vice Chancellor of the Plateau State University. Alongside this decision, the governor also terminated the appointments of one rector and three provosts from other state-owned tertiary institutions.

Prof. Matau, a member of the All Progressives Congress, had previously served as the state Commissioner for Higher Education before his appointment as VC. This move came as a surprise to many, as the reasons behind these decisions were not immediately provided by the government.
