Plateau State Polytechnic to Launch B.Tech Programs, Secures Key Accreditations
Rector Dr. Clement Chairman revealed that the institution recently secured accreditation for 31 programs, positioning it to expand its offerings and establish new courses, including potential postgraduate training.
Plateau State Polytechnic has announced plans to introduce Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) programs in selected fields, backed by a qualified academic staff, many of whom hold PhDs. Rector Dr. Clement Chairman revealed that the institution recently secured accreditation for 31 programs, positioning it to expand its offerings and establish new courses, including potential postgraduate training.
Dr. Chairman, appointed as Rector in February 2024, emphasized that Governor Caleb Mutfwang tasked him with revitalizing the Polytechnic’s academic standards and infrastructure. Previously, the institution faced declining academic credibility due to a lack of course accreditation since 2018, jeopardizing students’ eligibility for the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Upon assuming office, Dr. Chairman promptly addressed accreditation challenges by inviting the National Board for Technical Education (NABTE) to review the Polytechnic’s programs. By March, 31 programs in sciences, engineering, and environmental studies received accreditation, marking a significant milestone in restoring institutional credibility and attracting new candidates.
Chairman also noted that enhanced relationships with campus unions have led to the successful conclusion of an uninterrupted academic session. He outlined plans to boost enrollment, launch Higher National Diploma programs, and collaborate with universities to offer B.Tech and postgraduate studies. Partnerships with Nasarawa State University and the University of Jos are underway to facilitate these programs.
In addition to expanding academic offerings, the Polytechnic aims to improve entrepreneurial training to equip graduates for self-employment opportunities.
