Plateau State University (PLASU) has made a bold commitment to providing comprehensive hostel accommodations for its growing student population. With a student body of approximately 10,000, the university has taken a major step forward by completing a 192-capacity female hostel, which was officially handed over on November 25, 2024.

The fully furnished hostel is housed in a 24-room, one-story building, completed under the 2022/2023 Merged Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND) intervention projects. Despite delays due to inflation and flooding, the project was successfully finalized, providing 48 rooms with two double bunk beds each, designed to accommodate 192 students. The facility also includes a reading room, staff offices, and visitor facilities.

Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Shedrack Best, emphasized the significance of this development for the university’s academic environment. "Hostel accommodation is key to student life, student performance, and education delivery in every system," he noted. The new hostel is a part of the university's broader strategy to meet its accommodation needs, although Prof. Best acknowledged that this is just the beginning in a long-term plan to house all students on campus.

The university has taken full responsibility for the facility’s security, cleaning, and insurance, with contractors on hand to manage any defects for the next six months.

The completion of the hostel was celebrated by both university officials and students. Queen John Adams, a student representative, expressed gratitude for the priority given to housing, thanking both TETFUND and the university for addressing their accommodation challenges.
