The University of Jos (UNIJOS) is set to establish a new School of Business Studies, aimed at enhancing academic excellence, fostering innovation, and promoting business education in Plateau State.
The University of Jos (UNIJOS) has announced plans to establish a School of Business Studies, furthering its commitment to academic innovation and the promotion of business and commercial enterprise in Plateau State.
This announcement was made during the commissioning of high-tech digital equipment at the Department of Business Administration in the Faculty of Management Sciences. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tanko Ishaya, expressed his strong support for the initiative, noting that the university is continuously striving to enhance its academic offerings and maintain its position as a leader in technological innovation.
Professor Ishaya highlighted that transforming the Department of Business Administration into a fully-fledged School of Business will provide greater autonomy to the department, allowing it to expand its academic programs and introduce specialized business courses. The new school will focus on key areas such as Entrepreneurship, Digital Business, and Sustainable Business Practices, aligning with current global trends and industry demands.
The Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Professor Teresa Nmadu, emphasized the importance of continuous innovation in business education and commended the department for integrating cutting-edge technology into the curriculum. This initiative aims to prepare students for the challenges of a rapidly evolving business world, equipping them with the skills needed to succeed in a digital economy.
In addition to the creation of the new school, the university introduced advanced learning tools, including an Electronic Podium for streaming lectures, a Smart TV for digital learning, and an Interactive Board for class collaboration. These tools are designed to improve the learning experience, bridging the gap between theory and practice.
The President of the National Universities Association of Management Business Students (NUAMBS), Daniel Achuwe, praised the initiative, describing it as a significant step toward a dynamic and future-focused education. Similarly, Professor Christopher Piwuna, the Dean of Students Affairs, highlighted the importance of digital literacy and entrepreneurship in shaping graduates who can thrive in the modern business world.
With the establishment of the School of Business Studies, the University of Jos aims to enhance its global competitiveness and provide students with a comprehensive, technology-driven education.
