Polaris Bank has collaborated with the University of Ibadan (UI) and the Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF) to launch a tree planting initiative aimed at land restoration. The event, which took place on Thursday at the Vice Chancellor's office in Ibadan, Oyo State, is part of the bank’s commitment to environmental sustainability.
The initiative is aligned with the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration (2021-2030) and Polaris Bank's corporate social responsibility efforts. Speaking at the event, Polaris Bank’s Executive Director for Corporate Banking, Abimbola Ozomah, emphasized the importance of the project in addressing environmental issues such as desertification and land degradation.
Ozomah stated, "Our commitment to land restoration through tree planting supports the UN's environmental goals, and we aim to make a lasting impact by promoting responsible banking, empowering society, and fostering sustainable economic growth."
She added that the initiative aims to reduce carbon footprints, raise awareness about environmental preservation, and improve natural ecosystems.
University of Ibadan's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Kayode Adebowale, represented by Registrar Ganiyu Saliu, acknowledged the need for collaboration in tackling environmental challenges. He praised the tripartite partnership for its proactive approach to addressing environmental degradation.
The tree planting initiative underscores the collective effort to restore degraded areas, prevent soil erosion, and enhance environmental health, contributing to a greener future for Nigeria.
