A primary six pupil named Joshua lost his life on his way back from school, after being swept away by floodwaters at Taiwo street in Ikosi, Ketu area of Lagos state. Joshua's mother revealed that her son was supposed to write his common entrance examination into secondary school.

According to an eyewitness, Joshua and his schoolmates fell into a drainage canal when the plank they were using to cover the waterway, was covered by the flood. Despite efforts to resue them, the heavy currents made it difficult to accomplish.

Oloyede, a youth leader who witnessed the tragedy, recounted how he warned the children to be cautious. "But unfortunately," he said, "the plank was entirely covered by water, and they fell into the drainage. I managed to swim and rescue one of them, but tragically, Joshua was swept away."
