Prof. Magnus Kpakol Seeks Strategic Partnerships with UNIPORT in Agriculture, Technology, and Engineering

Prof. Magnus Kpakol, Chairman/CEO of the Economic Growth and Development Centre (EGDC) and former Presidential Chief Economic Adviser, visited the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT) to explore strategic partnerships aimed at advancing the institution's development in key sectors.

In a bid to foster significant advancements in the fields of agriculture, technology, and engineering, Prof. Magnus Kpakol, Chairman/CEO of the Economic Growth and Development Centre (EGDC) and former Presidential Chief Economic Adviser, paid a courtesy visit to the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT). The visit, which took place on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, aimed at discussing potential strategic partnerships that would enhance the university's academic offerings and global standing.

The meeting was held at the Vice Chancellor's Committee Room, where Prof. Kpakol met with UNIPORT's Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari Georgewill, and members of the university's management team. Prof. Kpakol emphasized his commitment to facilitating international collaborations, specifically targeting agriculture, technology, and engineering sectors.

“These strategic partnerships will not only strengthen UNIPORT’s academic programs but also position the university as a leading institution in the global network of higher education focused on sustainable development,” Prof. Kpakol stated. He further expressed his readiness to leverage his extensive experience and international connections to bring development partners and foreign universities on board.

Responding to Prof. Kpakol’s proposals, Vice Chancellor Prof. Georgewill expressed enthusiasm about the potential partnerships, highlighting how they would complement ongoing efforts to position UNIPORT as a top-tier university in Africa. He also underscored the importance of international collaboration in driving research, innovation, and capacity building.

Prof. Kpakol’s visit aligns with the 17th Governing Council’s strategy, under the leadership of distinguished Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, to attract international cooperation in pursuit of academic excellence and sustainable growth. Accompanying Prof. Kpakol on the visit was Chief Kadilo Kabari, a member of the Governing Council.

The visit marks a significant step towards enhancing UNIPORT’s development and fostering global partnerships that will benefit both the institution and the wider academic community.
