History was made today, January 26, 2026, as Rosemary Eneji attained the rank of Professor of Sociology at the University of Calabar (UNICAL), becoming the first female from the Bekwarra ethnic group of Cross River State to achieve this academic height.

Professor Eneji, an indigene of Gakem, has broken a significant glass ceiling, serving as a historic inspiration for women in the Bekwarra community and across the state. Her elevation underscores the institution's commitment to academic excellence and gender inclusion in 2026.
