The Special Matriculation Ceremony for fresh postgraduate students of the 2024/2025 academic session at Redeemer’s University celebrated both the beginning of advanced studies and the institution’s 20th anniversary.

The event, held on September 3, saw the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof Peter Aderonmu, represent the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Shadrach Olufemi. He welcomed students enrolling in PGD, Master’s, PhD, and professional programmes, highlighting the university’s reputation for excellence, integrity, and holistic education.

“By choosing to study here, you demonstrate ambition and discernment. Today, as you take the matriculation oath, you are joining a legacy that embodies Running with a Vision—a vision founded on faith, knowledge, and service to humanity. This ceremony is significant not only as the start of your postgraduate journey but also as part of our 20th-anniversary celebrations,” he stated.

Reflecting on the university’s achievements, the Vice-Chancellor noted Redeemer’s University’s strong performance in the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings, which assess contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“In our first appearance, we ranked #2 in Nigeria overall, showcasing our commitment to sustainable development and societal impact. Globally, we are placed in the 201-300 band, but our strengths are clear in specific SDGs. Notably, we are the leading university in Africa for SDG 6: Clean Water and Sanitation, ranking 42nd worldwide and first in Nigeria. This reflects our innovative research, community initiatives, and partnerships to enhance access to clean water in Osun State,” he explained.

The Vice-Chancellor added, “We also ranked first in Nigeria and sixth in Africa for SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being, underscoring our advanced health sciences programmes, cutting-edge medical facilities, and outreach efforts promoting wellness. Our institutions, such as ACEGID and IGH, continue to elevate the university’s reputation. Additionally, we achieved third place in Nigeria for SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions, while ranking in the top 10 across all six SDGs we reported.”

He further highlighted the university’s research contributions, including the development of affordable water purification technologies and telemedicine solutions, which directly advance these SDGs. “These accomplishments, during our 20th anniversary year, motivate us to integrate sustainability principles even more deeply into our curriculum and campus operations,” he added.

Prof Aderonmu also emphasized the university’s broader academic excellence. “Our faculty have published over 500 high-impact research papers in the last five years. Our alumni occupy influential positions globally, including in the World Health Organization and major Nigerian corporations. We continue to expand postgraduate programmes in emerging fields, supported by state-of-the-art laboratories, digital learning platforms, and partnerships with international universities in the UK, USA, and South Africa.”

The ceremony highlighted both the rich legacy and forward-looking vision of Redeemer’s University, setting a tone of ambition and achievement for the incoming postgraduate cohort.
