RSU Officially Launches Digital Transformation Initiative to Build a Smart Campus
Rivers State University, RSU, has officially launched its Digital Transformation Initiative, reaffirming its commitment to building a connected, smart campus that will enhance teaching, learning, research, administration, and service delivery through technology.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Zeb-Obipi, described the initiative as a defining moment in the institution’s history, noting that the University is positioning itself to lead the future of higher education in Nigeria through digital innovation.
Speaking under the theme “Digital Transformation for Excellence and Inclusive Service,” Prof. Zeb-Obipi said the agenda represents more than new technology. It is a strategic commitment to innovation, accessibility, efficiency, and academic excellence.
He explained that the initiative will provide seamless access to academic and administrative services and equip staff and students with digital skills for a technology-driven world.
The Vice-Chancellor also announced mandatory ICT training and capacity development programmes for all staff to ensure effective adoption and use of the digital platforms.
Prof. Zeb-Obipi appreciated Cinfores Limited for its partnership and technical support, stressing that academia-industry collaboration is essential for sustainable institutional development.
He said the deployment of the digital solutions will unlock opportunities for innovation, improve access to quality education, strengthen institutional efficiency, and create a more responsive learning environment.

In his goodwill message, former Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Barineme Fakae, commended the current administration for advancing the digital vision. He noted that the University’s “e-Varsity” vision has now evolved into a comprehensive digital ecosystem.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Blessing Jaja, described the initiative as a strategic step toward institutional excellence. He said it will strengthen administrative efficiency, improve service delivery, and position RSU as a model for digital innovation in higher education.
Earlier, the Acting Registrar, Dr. Idanyingi Daminabo, described the launch as a milestone in the University’s journey toward academic excellence and administrative efficiency, marking the start of a strategic transition into a digital era.
The Managing Director/CEO of Cinfores, Mr. Ibifuro Asawo, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for the opportunity to provide the digital solutions.
The National President of the Alumni Association, Lady P. Berezi, and the SUG President, represented by the President of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Douglas, commended the initiative as a significant step toward improving service delivery for students, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders.
