In a remarkable display of compassion and commitment to his constituents, Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate representing Ebonyi North senatorial district, has orchestrated a significant upliftment initiative. On Wednesday, April 10, 2024, Senator Nwebonyi handed over 79 newly constructed bungalows to widows and indigent residents across the three local government areas within his senatorial district.
The initiative, aimed at providing dignified housing for the marginalized, was announced during the disbursement ceremony of a N40 million scholarship fund for indigent students of the district. Held at Mbeke Isheke in Ebonyi local government area, the event marked a pivotal moment in the senator's ongoing efforts to uplift the lives of his constituents.

Senator Nwebonyi emphasized the importance of providing adequate shelter for widows and indigent individuals, noting that many were living in substandard conditions prior to the intervention. He pledged to continue such initiatives, expressing his commitment to prolonging the lives of the beneficiaries through the provision of conducive living environments.
In addition to the housing project, Senator Nwebonyi allocated N40 million towards scholarships for indigent students within his senatorial zone. Recognizing education as a vital tool for empowerment, the senator underscored the significance of investing in the academic pursuits of young individuals to curb school dropouts and enhance opportunities for a brighter future.
During the disbursement ceremony, 200 indigent students were awarded scholarships, with varying amounts allocated based on their fields of study. Notably, students pursuing LLB law and medicine received N150,000 each, while those in postgraduate studies were granted N200,000 each. Furthermore, a significant portion of the fund was directed towards alleviating the financial burdens of students facing the risk of dropping out due to unpaid school fees.
