Alex Ekwueme Federal University Faces Security Risks Due to Unresolved Land Ownership Issues- Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme University appeals to the Federal Government for support in resolving a land ownership dispute impacting campus development and security in Ebonyi State.
The management of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, located in Ebonyi State, has called on the Federal Government to assist the state government in compensating and resettling the original landowners on the university campus. This appeal comes as the university struggles with ongoing challenges related to the presence of these landowners on campus, which has hindered infrastructure development and campus security.
Professor Sunday Elom, the university's Vice-Chancellor, highlighted the issue during a visit from Comrade Asefon Sunday, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Students’ Engagements. Elom explained that the lack of compensation and resettlement has left the original landowners living on campus, creating barriers to campus development and security.
He stated, “As a university, we are seriously challenged because the original owners of the land where the university is situated are still living on campus because they have not been compensated and resettled by the Ebonyi state government that donated the land to the federal government. Because of this, we have not been able to completely fence the campus, and this has been a source of worry to us.”
