The Shehu of Bama, Alhaji (Dr) Umar Ibn Kyari Umar Al-Amin El-Kanemi, has emphasized the crucial role of education in combating insurgency, citing lack of awareness on the importance of education as a significant contributor to the Boko Haram menace in the region.

 

During a courtesy call by the management staff of Borno State University, led by Vice Chancellor Professor Babagana Gutti, the Shehu stressed the need for stakeholders in the education sector to unite and develop strategies to reverse the trend. "Unity among university stakeholders will foster the development of education in our state," he advised.

The Shehu assured the university management of his commitment to providing wise counsel and praying for their success and the betterment of education in the state.

The visit by the Borno State University management was aimed at introducing new principal officers to the Royal Father and seeking his fatherly advice and blessings. The team also condoled with Commissioner of Youth, Sports, and Poverty Alleviation, Comrade Saina Buba, over the passing of his father.

 

The importance of education in conflict-affected areas like Borno State cannot be overstated. According to reports, over 10 years of conflict has affected more than 14.8 million people, with an estimated 2.8 million children forced to drop out of school or never enrolled in formal education in North East Nigeria.
