Slum2School recently concluded a five-week tech training bootcamp at Adekunle Anglican Primary School in Makoko, Lagos, supported by HP. The program equipped young learners with skills in mobile app development, Python programming, data science, and robotics.

On September 20, 2024, Slum2School hosted a closing ceremony for its five-week tech training bootcamp at Adekunle Anglican Primary School in Makoko, Yaba, Lagos. Supported by HP, the program aimed to empower young learners through technology, providing them with skills in mobile app development, Python programming, data science, and robotics.

The event marked a significant milestone in the beneficiaries’ journey, showcasing their achievements and newfound confidence in the tech world. Participants shared their experiences, with Inioluwa expressing, “I had never coded before this training, and now I can build a simple app and write Python scripts! The Hackathon was challenging but pushed me to think outside the box.” Ayorinde echoed this sentiment, saying, “I never thought I would be able to build something from start to finish. This training has made me realize that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.”

The program culminated in a Hackathon, where learners applied their knowledge to create projects addressing real-world problems. The excitement was palpable as participants showcased their creativity and problem-solving skills.

Emmanuel Asika, Country Manager for HP, highlighted the importance of such initiatives: “It was inspiring to attend the closing of the HP STEM Bootcamp and witness today’s youth seizing opportunities many of us didn’t have growing up. Collaborations like this are vital, and at HP, our commitment to digital equity is just beginning.”

Adekunle Idowu, Project and Campaign Manager at Slum2School Africa, praised the learners’ progress: “It's incredible to see how far these kids have come in just four weeks. They’re ready to take on more challenges in the tech world. We’re grateful to HP for their partnership.”
