As part of its commitment to community engagement, capacity development, and public safety, Tai Solarin Federal University of Education (TASFUED) has organised a comprehensive First Aid and Emergency Rescue Training Programme for officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps.

The training, coordinated by the University Health Centre in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society, was designed to strengthen the emergency response capabilities of FRSC personnel, particularly in casualty management, first aid administration, and rescue operations during road traffic emergencies.

Speaking at the opening of the programme, the Deputy Director of the University Health Centre, Dr. Olufemi Oso, highlighted the importance of prompt and effective emergency response in reducing fatalities, preventing complications, and improving survival outcomes in road traffic incidents.

He noted that equipping first responders with modern rescue techniques and life-saving skills remains essential to enhancing public health and safety.

Participants received intensive training on key aspects of emergency response, including principles of first aid and emergency medical care, basic life support techniques, casualty handling and safe transportation, as well as rescue procedures for road traffic crashes.

The programme combined classroom instruction with practical sessions to ensure participants acquired both the knowledge and technical competence required to respond effectively to real-life emergencies.

The practical component featured demonstrations and hands-on exercises, allowing participants to apply the skills learned during the training.

FRSC officers also took part in simulated rescue scenarios designed to mirror real-life emergency situations, providing opportunities to practise casualty evacuation procedures, first aid interventions, and coordinated rescue operations.

Facilitators at the training emphasised that first aid and rescue skills are indispensable for road safety personnel, who are often the first responders at accident scenes.
