TETFund Breaks Ground for 2.2MW Solar Power Plant at Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas, Bonny

The Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG), Bonny, has recorded another milestone following the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 2.2-megawatt peak (MWp) solar grid power plant at the institution.

The Federal Polytechnic of Oil and Gas (FPOG), Bonny, has recorded another milestone following the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 2.2-megawatt peak (MWp) solar grid power plant at the institution.

The ceremony, held on Friday, July 17, 2026, was conducted by a delegation from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) led by Arch. Inene Erivwo.

The project is expected to strengthen the institution's power supply, enhancing its capacity to effectively carry out academic, research, and administrative activities.

Speaking on the development, the institution described the project as a reflection of its commitment to growth under the leadership of the Rector, Dr. Victor Okolobah, whose administration has continued to pursue initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and institutional development.

According to the polytechnic, the 2.2MWp solar grid power plant will generate electricity from sunlight through solar panels, with an inverter converting the generated direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) for distribution through the electrical grid or local mini-grid network.

The solar power facility is expected to provide electricity to the entire polytechnic community and could also benefit surrounding communities.

The project marks another significant step in the institution's drive to improve its infrastructure and create a more reliable and sustainable energy supply for teaching, learning, and research.
