In a major stride toward environmental sustainability, The Dawn Project has launched a 2,000-tree climate action initiative at the Lagos State University (LASU) Epe Campus.

The exercise, held from Monday, 20th to Tuesday, 21st October 2025, marks a significant milestone in the group’s mission to combat climate change through community engagement and creative advocacy.
The Dawn Project, known for its artistic approach to environmental education, aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 13 – Take Urgent Action to Combat Climate Change and Its Impacts. It uses diverse art forms—spoken word, writing, music, performance, and visual art—to inspire environmental awareness and social change.

Ahead of the launch, the Lead of The Dawn Project team, Dr (Mrs) Pamela Ajayi, visited the campus on Saturday, 18th October 2025, to enhance the aesthetics of the Administrative Block, which houses the Office of the Head of Campus and other key offices.
During the launch, Dr Ajayi highlighted that the initiative, originally a community-based tree-planting exercise, now extends to tertiary institutions. She emphasized that trees are crucial for mitigating climate change, improving air quality, and supporting biodiversity. She revealed that the first batch of 1,000 trees, including King Palm, Royal Palm, Golden Palm, and other shrubs, was delivered on Sunday, 19th October 2025, with another batch expected in November. She also encouraged students—especially from the School of Agriculture and Faculty of Environmental Sciences—to take ownership of the project.

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, the Head of LASU Epe Campus, Professor E. O. Oyentunji, commended The Dawn Project for its visionary initiative and reaffirmed LASU’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
The event was jointly coordinated by the Parks and Gardens Unit, the Tree Planting Committee, and participating students. It also received media coverage highlighting the LASU–Dawn Project collaboration as a model for climate action and sustainable campus initiatives in Nigerian universities.
