Top Contenders Revealed as Federal Polytechnic Nekede Concludes Rector Screening

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede, Imo State, has completed a two-day screening process to select its next Rector. Eight candidates, including the acting Rector Dr. Uzoma Friday Ibeaja, were evaluated.

The Federal Polytechnic Nekede has finalized its two-day screening process to appoint the institution’s next substantive Rector. The rigorous evaluation was conducted by the polytechnic's selection board and Governing Council, following Dr. Uzoma Friday Ibeaja's appointment as acting Rector by the Federal Government in March 2024.

Eight candidates, including the acting Rector, were assessed during the screening overseen by Prof. Okorie Kalu Osonwa, former Rector of Abia State Polytechnic Aba. This process adhered to National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) regulations.

At the end of the evaluations, three candidates emerged as the top contenders: Dr. Basilia Igbokwe (first position), Dr. Onyemenonu C.C. (second position), and Dr. Okafo Okoreaffia (third position). Their names will be forwarded to the Presidency for the final selection.

Hon. Henry Ikechukwu Ikoh, Chairman of the Governing Council, praised the professionalism and transparency of the screening process. He highlighted the government’s commitment to appointing capable leaders to enhance the academic and administrative standards of the institution. Ikoh assured that the future Rector will receive the council’s and government’s full support in advancing the polytechnic’s mission.
