Tragic Accident Claims Life of 10-Year-Old Student on School Grounds in Lagos

A 10-year-old pupil, identified simply as Rofiat, lost her life after being struck by a car on the premises of Isiu Grammar School in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State. The tragic accident occurred during school hours, casting a pall of sorrow over the entire school community. Rofiat, like any other school day, had joined her friends on the school playground as they prepared for the closing period. However, tragedy struck when a vehicle, which had been parked near the school by a teacher identified as Dele, started rolling backward toward the unsuspecting children.

Unfortunately, Rofiat, a female junior class student, did not notice the oncoming Nissan car until it was too late. The vehicle struck her, and the impact caused her to hit her forehead on the ground. Other students quickly alerted the teachers, who rushed to the scene and found Rofiat motionless. Rofiat was immediately taken to Isiotu General Hospital for medical attention. However, her condition deteriorated rapidly, and medical staff at the hospital referred her to Agbowa General Hospital. She was rushed to the emergency section at Agbowa but, tragically, was later pronounced dead.

The devastating loss of a young life has left the school community and Rofiat's family in mourning. The incident has also raised concerns about safety measures on school premises. Following the tragic accident, local police officers arrived at the school premises to gather evidence and question the teachers who were on duty when the incident occurred. The owner of the car, who had reported the incident to the police, was taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.

The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident and assured the public that a thorough investigation was underway.
