“I felt a deep sense of joy, fulfilment, and gratitude when my name was announced as the second winner. Representing Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto on such a reputable platform organised by NABES National Headquarters was already an honour, but emerging as runner-up made it even more special,” he said.

According to him, the recognition validated his preparation and boosted his confidence to compete beyond his immediate academic environment.

Lawal explained that the major challenge of the competition was the pressure that comes with impromptu speaking.

“One of the major challenges I faced was thinking critically and organising my ideas within a very limited time. Speaking before a diverse audience and judges from different backgrounds also required strong mental alertness and confidence,” he noted.

He added that managing stage fright while maintaining clarity, relevance, and originality was demanding, but the experience helped him stay calm and focused throughout the contest.

Lawal later advised Borgu Emirate students, particularly those from Niger State, to take advantage of opportunities beyond the classroom, believe in themselves and embrace platforms such as debates, public speaking, leadership programmes, and academic competitions.
