UDUTH Forum Makes History with Maiden Interdepartmental Quiz and Debate Competition

History was made on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at the College of Health Sciences Auditorium of Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), as the UDUTH Forum organized its first-ever interdepartmental quiz and debate competition, bringing together eight departments in a remarkable display of academic excellence and teamwork.

The event, described by organizers as a celebration of knowledge, collaboration, and professional excellence, marked the first time students from all departments studying at UDUTH will be competing in an academic contest outside their regular departmental examinations.

The competition attracted students, lecturers, and other members of the academic community who gathered to witness what many described as a groundbreaking initiative aimed at strengthening unity and encouraging healthy intellectual engagement among future healthcare professionals.

The quiz competition featured three rounds designed to test participants across different knowledge areas. Contestants were assessed in current affairs, general knowledge, anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry, making the competition both challenging and exciting for participants and the audience.

After several highly competitive rounds, the Department of Medicine and Surgery (MBBS) emerged as the winner with School of Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) coming behind them after a closely contested performance.

The debate segment of the competition focused on contemporary health and social issues, challenging participants to think critically and present arguments on the spot, as the debate session was conducted entirely in an impromptu format.

At the end of the debate contest, the Department of Optometry emerged as the winner and the Department of Physiotherapy came behind them after an equally commendable performance.

Organizers expressed satisfaction with the success of the maiden edition and expressed willingness in the continuity of the programme.

“The competition has laid a strong foundation for what we hope will become an annual tradition that promotes academic excellence and stronger relationships among students,” they said.
