Nigeria Customs Service Produces First Female Pilot In 23-Year Aviation History

The Nigeria Customs Service has produced its first female pilot, marking a milestone in the agency’s 23-year aviation history.

Deputy Superintendent of Customs Olanike Nafisat Balogun was decorated following the completion of her pilot training, the Service announced.

Balogun joined the Nigeria Customs Service in 2002 as a Customs Assistant. She began her career in the Airwing Unit as cabin crew before advancing her education and professional qualifications.

She holds an Advanced Diploma in Air Ticketing and Cabin Services and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Ahmadu Bello University. The Service sponsored her for pilot training, after which she was elevated to the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Customs (Pilot).

Comptroller General of Customs Adewale Adeniyi described Balogun’s achievement as "a powerful example of what determination and institutional backing can achieve."

Officials said her promotion reflects the Service’s commitment to career progression and capacity building within its Airwing operations.

The Nigeria Customs Service Airwing provides aerial surveillance, patrol and logistics support for the agency’s operations nationwide.
