UI Law Prodigy Foluke Babatunde-Lawal Bags First Class Honours After Years of Grit
From a dreamer wondering about the "intellectual space" of top scholars to becoming one herself, Foluke Babatunde-Lawal has officially earned her Bachelor of Laws (LL.B) with First Class Honours from the prestigious University of Ibadan (UI).
Her journey, which began with her admission in 2019, was far from a straight path. Like many of her peers, she faced a two-year delay due to the intersection of industrial strikes and the global COVID-19 lockdown, eventually resuming her studies in person only in 2021.
Reflecting on her academic trajectory, Foluke noted that her achievement was not a stroke of luck, but a "natural consequence" of discipline. Her experience was marked by:
Early Ambition: Watching senior students with awe and questioning if she could sustain the same level of academic rigor.
Resilience through Setbacks: Navigating the "sting" of scoring a 'B' in courses she fought to ace and the exhaustion of a demanding curriculum.
High Performance: Starting strong with an 81 in her first law exam, a momentum she maintained despite moments of doubt and burnout.
In a moving reflection on her success, Foluke described the feeling of finally reaching the summit as deeply validating.
"Looking back, the outcome feels less like a surprise and more like a natural consequence of years of consistency and sacrifice," she shared.
Her story serves as a beacon for aspiring law students, proving that even with the disruptions of strikes and personal doubts, unwavering consistency leads to the podium of excellence
