UI,UNILORIN Triumph in Climate Risk Research Challenge
The University of Ibadan (UNIBADAN) and the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) emerged as the winners of the Climate Risk Research Challenge. The DEWSClim Innovators from the University of Ibadan, led by Peace Aburime, secured first place and a $5,000 prize. Second place went to UNILORIN TEAM A, led by Jimoh-Faari Abdulkabir, with a $3,500 prize. The third-place APEX Team from the University of Ibadan, led by Olajire Aduragbemi, won $1,500.
The University of Ibadan (UNIBADAN) and the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) emerged as the winners of the Climate Risk Research Challenge—Nigeria 2023 Prize Event, where they were recognized for their significant contributions to climate risk research.
The event took place at the University of Ibadan, where distinguished personalities gathered to celebrate the groundbreaking research and dedication shown by the institutions in addressing climate risk and resilience in agriculture.

Vice Chancellor Professor Oyebode Adebowale, who was represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration Professor A. Olapegba, commended the event as a platform for honoring the innovative work done by student researchers. He emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in dealing with climate challenges related to food security, noting the high standards of academic excellence at the University of Ibadan. “Our students have shown remarkable ingenuity and resilience, reflecting the high standards of academic excellence at our institution,” he said.

In an interview, Peace Aburime, leader of the winning team, expressed gratitude to the organizers and sponsors, highlighting the importance of public concern over climate challenges in Nigeria and outlining plans to utilize the prize money for further research on addressing the impact of the climate crisis on food security in the country.
