The Senator representing Ogun Central District, Shuaib Afolabi Salisu, argued that the bill on the unemployment benefit scheme differs from other incentives of its kind. He made this assertion on May 13th during an interview with Channels Television.

According to him, other similar unemployment incentives lack impact. He emphasized the importance of utilizing data from the national database to approximate the number of unemployed individuals in the country for the scheme to be effective.

"Interested individuals must register for the scheme so that we can accurately determine their numbers," he explained.

Senator Salisu also highlighted that the unemployment benefit scheme aims not only to provide stipends but also to generate value for graduates, monitor their contributions, and foster an ecosystem.

"Creating an ecosystem adds value. For instance, graduates seeking experience can engage in internships and part-time work with small and medium-sized enterprises in fields where they need talent but cannot afford full-time employees," he elaborated.
