Unhappy NECO Candidate Requests Remark of Results After Scoring 7 Cs

Following the release of the 2023 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) results on Tuesday, October 10, an NECO candidate, @baddieluvrr (Hannah), has taken to social media to request a remark of her papers, expressing dissatisfaction with her results and claiming her subjects were not fairly marked.

Hannah, the aggrieved NECO candidate, expressed her disappointment on her X (formerly Twitter) handle, stating, "How can I apply for remarking? How can I get a credit in all other subjects apart from Physics? I know how hard I worked, and I know what I wrote. I checked the question booklet we were given, and I can beat my chest that the lowest I would get in a sane environment is nothing less than a C4. This is very unfair and cruel. Even the rest of my subjects were not marked fairly. I'm supposed to get a C4 and above."

The candidate sat for nine subjects and scored seven credits, 1 good, and a pass. Her request for remarking comes after the National Examination Council (NECO) released the results of the Senior Secondary School Examination, which had a total of 1,196,985 candidates comprising 616,398 males and 580,587 females.

Abia state recorded the highest percentage of candidates with five credits or above, including mathematics and English, at 85.53%. In contrast, Kebbi state had the lowest performance with just 0.310%.

The release of these results follows a period of anxiety among students and parents who had been eagerly awaiting the outcome of the examination. Many SS3 students wrote the 2023 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with pending results from NECO. Some of the students also sat for the May/June 2023 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and were heavily relying on their NECO results.
