UNIABUJA Law Students Honor Wale Tinubu at 2024 Annual Dinner and Award Night
The Faculty of Law at the University of Abuja celebrated its 2024 Annual Graduating Dinner, honoring Wale Tinubu and other distinguished individuals for their contributions to the legal profession.

The Faculty of Law at the University of Abuja (UNIABUJA) hosted its 2024 Annual Graduating Dinner and Award Night on July 27, 2024, at the Barcelona International Hotel, Abuja. The event served as a platform for knowledge sharing, networking, and recognition of prominent figures in the legal profession, notably Mr. Wale Tinubu, CEO of OANDO Plc.
Guests gathered at the event expecting a typical ceremonial dinner, but they were treated to an evening filled with elegance and insightful discussions. Students dazzled in their ceremonial black and white attire, and the atmosphere was lively with a mix of dignitaries from various sectors, including law, politics, and business.
The highlight of the night was a lecture by Prof. Damilola Olawuyi, Senior Advocate of Nigeria and Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Afe Babalola University. He delivered a compelling keynote address titled “21st Century Lawyers: Harnessing the Benefits of the Relationship Between Law and Energy.” Prof. Olawuyi emphasized the critical intersection of law and energy in Nigeria's economic framework and encouraged students to explore opportunities in this vital sector.
The event also featured the unveiling of the "Juris Energia Journal" dedicated to Mr. Tinubu, who was honored for his significant contributions to the oil industry and energy law. Although Tinubu could not attend, his message was delivered by Mr. Yomi Babalola from OANDO’s legal team, who encouraged law students to uphold good values and pursue careers in energy law.
Prof. Aisha Sanni Maikudi, Acting Vice-Chancellor of UNIABUJA, presented awards of excellence to distinguished students and acknowledged their achievements in academics and extracurricular activities. The ceremony was also an opportunity for students to interact with seasoned professionals, fostering a deeper understanding of the legal landscape.
The evening concluded with expressions of gratitude to the organizing committee, sponsors, and partners, including the Nigerian Bar Association, Oando Plc, and various law firms that contributed to the success of the event.
Overall, the 2024 Annual Graduating Dinner was not just a celebration but also a testament to the university's commitment to excellence in legal education and professional development.
