UNICAL Management Uncovers Payroll Fraud Involving Senior Staff Member

The University of Calabar (UNICAL) management has uncovered a case of payroll fraud involving a senior staff member who allegedly abused their office by adding unauthorized names to the university’s payroll. The discovery was made following reports of document forgery, payroll infiltration, and abuse of office.

According to the reports, the staff member in question allegedly inserted the name of their son, Agbo Matthew Otu, into the university's payroll, falsely appointing him as a Chief Accountant on CONTISS 13/4 from November 2023. This fraudulent entry allowed Matthew to receive salaries amounting to N774,687.77 through his UBA account (No. 20992611294) over three months.
