UNICAL, Nigerian Conservation Foundation and others Award Scholarships to 3 Postgraduate students

The University of Calabar UNICAL in collaboration with the Nigerian Conservation Foundation (NCF) and its partners (Calgary Zoo Foundation/Wilder Institute (CZ/WI) and the Centre for Biodiversity Conservation and Research has offered scholarship awards to 3 Postgraduate students of the institution.

The Scholarship award was conveyed in a letter signed by the Director of, the Directorate of External Relations and Partnership, Prof. Peter Okafor.

According to the letter, Mr Agabi Eneji David was awarded an M.Sc. scholarship in the Department of Forestry and Wildlife Resources Management, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Calabar.

The award, according to the letter, is for one year in the first instance with effect from October 2023.

In the same vein, Mr Adekanmbi Cole Adeyinka was awarded an M.Sc. scholarship in the same Department for two years with effect from January 2023.

Mr Wilfred Akonjom Ayambem was awarded a PhD scholarship in the same Department for a period of three years with effect from January 2023 to January 2026.

The scholarship awards came on the heels of the beneficiaries' success at the recent interview for the Postgraduate Scholarship for the preservation and conservation of Cross River Gorillas.

According to the letter, the scholarship covers Registration and Tuition fees, operating and living expenses (accommodation), study materials and research fees.

It added that the programme at the University of Calabar is a Full-time academic programme and will require the awardees to submit a letter of leave of absence or study leave from their employers, if only they are on full-paid employment.

The programme, according to the letter, involves a mandatory three-month internship at the Nigerian Conservation Foundation and a compulsory one-month hands-on training during an exchange visit to the Centre for Biodiversity Conservation and Research, Ghana.

The University, however, urged the awardees to observe and adhere to the conditions governing the programme as laid out in their letters of award, even as it stated that publications and patents emanating from the scholarship scheme should acknowledge the support provided by the Unical-Nigerian Conservation (NCF)-Wider Institute Scholarship.
