UNIDEL Faculty of Computing Empowers Students for the 2026 Digital Economy

The Faculty of Computing, University of Delta, Agbor (UNIDEL), organized a Career Conversation Programme on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, aimed at exposing students to evolving career paths and opportunities in the computing profession. The event was held at the university’s 1,000-capacity hall.

In his welcome address, Dr. Chijioke Yakson Yamah commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Stella Chiemeke, for supporting the initiative, describing it as a strong foundation for shaping students’ career perspectives. He lauded her ongoing commitment to academic excellence and the intellectual development of students across the university.

The guest lecturer, Mr. Onyeacholem Ifeanyi Joshua, an IT expert, delivered a presentation titled “Building the Future: Career Pathways and Emerging Opportunities Across Computing Disciplines.” He highlighted the relevance of computing in a rapidly evolving global economy and provided a comprehensive overview of key areas, including:

Dr. Okpako Abugor Ejaita, Dean of the Faculty of Computing, described computing as a dynamic and highly relevant profession with multiple career pathways. He encouraged students to develop expertise in specialized areas, build marketable skills, and leverage the numerous opportunities in the information technology sector to ensure employability after graduation.

The programme also featured an interactive session, during which students engaged the speakers with questions on commercializing computing skills and pursuing entrepreneurial ventures post-graduation.

The event was well-attended by faculty members, including Dr. Mrs. Ini Imafidon, Dr. C. Y. Iyamah, Dr. Mrs. Oduma E. O., Dr. Jude Igborgbor, Mrs. Olapeju Iyamah, and other staff, reflecting the faculty’s commitment to preparing students for the demands of the 21st-century digital economy.
