UNILAG Concludes Groundbreaking Molecular Biology Workshop
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) successfully concluded a three-day workshop on Basic DNA and Molecular Biology, organized by the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics. Held from March 24 to 26, 2025, at the Dr. D. K. Olukoya Central Research and Reference Laboratories, the training provided hands-on experience in pipetting, DNA isolation, PCR methods, and nucleic acid amplification.

The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has successfully concluded a three-day workshop on Basic DNA and Molecular Biology, aimed at equipping postgraduate students with essential laboratory techniques.
Organized by the Department of Cell Biology and Genetics, the workshop took place from March 24 to March 26, 2025, at the prestigious Dr. D. K. Olukoya Central Research and Reference Laboratories, UNILAG. Participants received hands-on training in key molecular biology techniques, including pipetting skills, genomic DNA isolation, polymerase chain reaction (PCR) methods, and nucleic acid amplification.
At the closing ceremony on March 26, the Head of the Department, Prof. L. Ogunkanmi, commended the dedication of participants and emphasized the importance of applying their newly acquired skills in research and professional settings. He also expressed appreciation for the university’s support and the contributions of expert facilitators and technical staff.
Renowned experts, including Dr. O. Amusa, Dr. Kolawole, Dr. T. Fakorede, Dr. O. Adebesin, and Dr. Anosike, provided specialized training in DNA extraction, integrity analysis, and animal handling techniques. Participants lauded the workshop for its practical focus and high-quality mentorship.
The program concluded with the award of certificates and a group photo session, leaving attendees motivated to advance their academic and research careers with enhanced molecular biology expertise.
