On April 25, 2024, the Faculty of Social Science at the University of Lagos (UNILAG) hosted the UNILAG Econs '99 Alumni Association for a special Career Talk, Networking & Appreciation event. The gathering aimed to inspire current students with stories and experiences from alumni, encouraging them to strive for success and make a positive impact in the world.

The event, held at the Faculty of Social Science Boardroom II, featured presentations from accomplished professionals including Customer Experience Expert Mr. Eniola Ositelu, Project Management Expert Mr. Bimbo Osifeso, Treasury Manager Mrs. Ayobami Rabiu, Certified Banker Mr. Anuoluwapo Adefeso, and Chairman of the Board, Maersk Nigeria & CFO Maersk West & Central Africa Mr. Michael Adewuyi, who spoke virtually.

The interactive session allowed students to engage with alumni, asking questions and gaining valuable insights into building successful careers, effective networking, and making a positive impact in their chosen fields. Throughout the event, the alumni emphasized the importance of hard work, resilience, and adaptability, sharing personal stories of triumphs and challenges.

Professor Simeon Akinleye, Head of the Department of Economics, expressed gratitude to the alumni association for their initiative and contributions to the department. He highlighted the event's alignment with the university's current administration's efforts to engage students with industry experts, emphasizing the power of alumni engagement in shaping students' futures.

Mr. Lekan Aire, President of UNILAG Econs '99 Alumni Association, spoke about the alumni's readiness to support the department, both materially and through mentorship. He encouraged students to persevere through challenges, drawing upon their resilience and passion.

In addition to the insightful discussions, the alumni association donated a printer and air conditioning units to the department, further demonstrating their commitment to enhancing the learning experience for students.

The event also celebrated the contributions of some department staff, including Professor Mary Nwakaeze, the 1999 set's Course Adviser, who received an award of appreciation for her outstanding service.
