UNILAG Leads Carnival Procession Ahead of 11th All Africa University Games

In anticipation of the 11th Federation of African Universities’ Sport (FASU) Games, scheduled to commence on Friday, September 20, 2024, UNILAG embarked on a lively awareness campaign through key areas of its campus and surrounding neighborhoods.

In anticipation of the 11th Federation of African Universities’ Sport (FASU) Games, scheduled to commence on Friday, September 20, 2024, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) embarked on a lively awareness campaign through key areas of its campus and surrounding neighborhoods. The sensitization event, organized by the Media and Publicity Sub-Committee for the 11th FASU Games, aimed to raise awareness about the upcoming games, also known as LAGOS 2024.

The carnival-like procession began at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 19, 2024, from the UNILAG Sports Centre. The UNILAG team, accompanied by banners and handbills, made their way through key areas, including Onike Roundabout, Sabo, and Yaba, before returning to the campus. The vibrant roadshow caught the attention of onlookers along Herbert Macaulay Way and other areas, as the procession entertained and invited the public to attend the games.

As part of the co-hosting arrangement, UNILAG and Lagos State University (LASU) will welcome nearly 100 universities from across Africa to participate in the event. The games will feature various sports such as Basketball, Football, Swimming, and Athletics, with competitions taking place at both the UNILAG Sports Complex and LASU’s facilities.

The opening ceremony is set for Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the UNILAG Sports Complex, with dignitaries including Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Minister of Education Professor Tahir Mamman, and Minister of Sports Development John Enoh expected to attend.

The 11th FASU Games will run until Sunday, September 29, 2024, with athletes vying for medals and trophies in a wide range of sporting disciplines.
