The Civil Society Scaling Up Nutrition in Nigeria (CS-SUNN) has selected the Vice Chancellor of Northwest University Kano (NWUK), Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, as one of the 10 Most Influential Women in Kano State, in recognition of her outstanding contributions to education, leadership, and the promotion of women's development.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, 16 July 2026, when a high-powered delegation from CS-SUNN paid a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor's Office at Northwest University Kano.

The delegation was led by the Program Manager of CS-SUNN, Mr. Ridwan Awosanya, and comprised representatives from the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, the Ministry of Planning and Budget, the Secretary of the House Committee on Women Affairs, Kano State House of Assembly, the Kano State Coordinator of CS-SUNN, as well as Ex-Officio members and other officials.

Speaking during the visit, Mr. Ridwan Awosanya said the purpose of the visit was to formally intimate the University Management that Professor Amina Salihi Bayero had been selected among the 10 Most Influential Women in Kano State under CS-SUNN's initiative aimed at recognizing women who have made remarkable impacts in society.

He explained that the organization is committed to promoting nutrition, particularly among women and children, while identifying and celebrating female leaders whose influence can inspire positive change and advance nutrition advocacy across the state.

Also speaking, Mrs. Madu Solomon, representing the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs, commended the Management of Northwest University Kano for its commitment to education and human development. She explained that CS-SUNN is implementing national nutrition guidelines through strategic advocacy and awareness campaigns designed to educate young women and the wider society on the importance of proper nutrition for healthier families and communities.

The Vice Chancellor, Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, who was unavoidably absent, was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Aisha Garba Habib.

In her remarks, Professor Aisha Garba Habib warmly welcomed the delegation to Northwest University Kano and gave a brief overview of the University's academic growth, achievements, and commitment to community development.

She expressed appreciation to CS-SUNN for finding the Vice Chancellor worthy of the prestigious recognition, describing the selection as well-deserved and a proof to Professor Bayero's visionary leadership, dedication to education, and commitment to the empowerment of women and society at large.

Professor Habib assured the delegation that the University would continue to support initiatives that promote nutrition, women's empowerment, and sustainable development.

As part of the visit, the pre-inauguration ceremony of the Vice Chancellor into the prestigious group of the 10 Most Influential Women in Kano State was conducted at the Vice Chancellor's Office. The delegation explained that the date for the formal inauguration ceremony would be communicated in due course.

Delivering the vote of thanks, the Registrar of Northwest University Kano, Dr. Adm.
