The University of Lagos (UNILAG), in collaboration with global academic publishing leader Elsevier, has conducted a one-day training session for Nigerian academic journal editors to enhance the quality and visibility of academic publications in the country. The training took place on Monday at the Arthur Mbanefo Digital Research Centre, UNILAG, coinciding with the university's Fourth International Week.

The workshop, designed to equip editors with skills to meet international publishing standards, introduced participants to Digital Commons, Elsevier’s advanced platform aimed at improving the accessibility of academic journals.

Prof. Yetunde Zaid, the Chairman of the occasion and UNILAG Librarian, emphasized the importance of the training in raising the standards of Nigerian research outputs to achieve global recognition. She stated, "This collaboration will afford our journal editors the opportunity to learn how to use the tools necessary to make their institutions’ journals globally competitive. Our goal is to make Nigerian journals successful and index them in Scopus."

Dr. Mojisola Shodipe, Director of the Academic Publishing Centre (South West) at UNILAG, expressed her excitement about the partnership with Elsevier. She acknowledged the effort to organize the training and highlighted the significance of the initiative in strengthening research output across Nigerian universities.

The training also featured experts in international academic publishing from the United Kingdom and the Netherlands, who shared best practices with the editors. Prof. Ismail Ibraheem, Director of UNILAG’s Office of International Relations, Partnerships, and Prospects, described the collaboration with Elsevier as a strategic step to prepare Nigerian universities for global relevance.

The event was graced by the Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG, Prof. Folashade Ogunshola, who supported the university's efforts to foster global engagement and partnerships in academic activities.
