In recognition of the International Day for Biodiversity, the TETFUND Centre of Excellence in Biodiversity Conservation and Ecosystem Management (TCEBCEM) at the University of Lagos has organized a pivotal webinar aimed at addressing the critical issue of biodiversity degradation in Africa. The webinar, titled "Halting Biodiversity Degradation in Africa: Imperative for Social Movement," would feature distinguished speakers and experts in the field. Professor Wole Fatunbi, the Acting Director of the Research and Innovation Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), based in Ghana, delivered the keynote address. Professor Fatunbi brought a wealth of experience and expertise in agricultural research and biodiversity conservation to the discussion.
Furthermore, Professor Chiedozie Egesi, the Executive Director/CEO of the National Root Crops Research Institute (NRCRI) in Abia State, served as the discussant, offering valuable insights into the practical aspects of addressing biodiversity degradation, particularly within the African context.
The esteemed Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade T. Ogunsola (FAS), acted as the chief host for the webinar, emphasizing the university's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainable development. Professor Bola Oboh, the Centre Director of TCEBCEM, will serve as the host, facilitating the smooth conduct of the event.
