At a recent event held on July 17, 2024, at the Tayo Aderinokun Lecture Theatre, the University of Lagos (UNILAG) Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, OON, FAS, and Aare Bashir Fakorede, founder of the Aare Bashir Fakorede Foundation, underscored the critical role of failure in business during the Ignite Career Initiative's CAC Business Certificate presentation.

Prof. Ogunsola addressed the audience, advising aspiring entrepreneurs to view failure as a valuable learning experience. She encouraged them to persist and maintain ethical standards in their business practices. “Failure is your friend. Embrace and learn from it,” she said. She also emphasized that honesty and integrity are essential in business.

Aare Fakorede, represented by his wife, Mrs. Tayo Fakorede, echoed similar sentiments, urging students to embrace failure, uphold ethical principles, and build resilience. She reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to supporting young entrepreneurs.

The event featured speeches from notable figures including Mr. George Emefiele, Group Managing Director of NEM Insurance, who praised the initiative, and goodwill messages from Mr. Tobi Oluwole of SMEDAN and Mr. Uche Nwachukwu of Bank of Industry.

Additional highlights included testimonials from previous CAC certificate recipients, a spoken word performance by Esther Sokpor, and the presentation of a pencil artwork to the Vice-Chancellor by Emmanuel Eliagwu, a Creative Arts student.

The ceremony culminated in the presentation of CAC certificates to ten business owners, with remaining certificates distributed by the Vice-Chancellor, Mrs. Fakorede, and Hon. Moyosore Adebanjo, co-founder of Ignite Career Initiative. This year’s event saw the issuance of 350 certificates to UNILAG students, continuing the Initiative’s mission to empower youth with entrepreneurial skills and support.
