UNILORIN Alumna Princess Alabi Receives 2024 Diana Award
Princess Alabi, a University of Ilorin alumna and trailblazer, has received the 2024 Diana Award for her impactful humanitarian and leadership efforts.
Princess Alabi, an alumna of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has been awarded the 2024 Diana Award, the highest recognition for young people making significant contributions to social action or humanitarian efforts.
The Diana Award, named in memory of Diana, Princess of Wales, is presented by a charity supported by HRH The Prince of Wales and Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex.
During her time at UNILORIN, Princess Alabi made history as the first female president of the Ilorin University Medical Students’ Association (ILUMSA). Her tenure was marked by groundbreaking initiatives that benefited over 1,500 medical students. These included spearheading efforts to raise $30,000 for a multifunctional secretariat, launching academic and talent development programs, and organizing impactful medical outreach and blood donation drives.
Princess Alabi also worked tirelessly to foster alumni engagement and enhance media visibility, leaving a legacy of inclusivity, empowerment, and transformation for medical students. Her remarkable leadership inspired many within and beyond the university community.
Earlier this year, Princess Alabi was one of 124 medical graduates from UNILORIN who took their professional oaths on October 4, 2024.
The 2024 Diana Award was particularly competitive, with over 1,700 nominations submitted globally. Princess Alabi’s achievements cement her status as a role model for young leaders worldwide.
