The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ilorin proudly inducted 30 graduates from the 2022-2023 academic session during its sixth induction and oath-taking ceremony held on Monday.

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Ilorin has inducted 30 graduates from the 2022-2023 academic session during its sixth induction and oath-taking ceremony. Themed “Thriving in Turbulent Times: Strategies for Veterinary Enterprises to Navigate Economic Challenges and Ensure Sustainable Growth,” the event took place in Ilorin on Monday.

AIG Aishatu Abubakar-Baju, the President of the Veterinary Council of Nigeria, represented by Acting Registrar Dr. Oladotun Fadipe, urged the inductees to uphold the integrity of the veterinary profession. “Veterinary is a noble profession found in every sphere of life. Veterinarians are men of honour. Practice it with dignity and honour,” he stated.

Keynote speaker Dr. Puspa Ramloo, Managing Director of House of Pluto Lagos, encouraged the new veterinarians to seek additional knowledge and experience. “As a graduate, don’t think you know everything. Be open to learning and make mistakes now to avoid bigger mistakes later,” he advised.

University Vice-Chancellor Professor Wahab Egbewole (SAN) emphasized the importance of leveraging technology and acquiring practical skills in their careers. He posed a critical question to the graduates: “You have been trained and certified in character and learning; how are you going to deploy the learning to positively impact the Nigerian state and the global space?”

Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Professor Mistura O. Azeez, reminded the graduates of their crucial role in public health. “Your work will have significant public health implications. Diseases that affect animals often impact human health, and as veterinarians, you play a vital role in safeguarding communities from zoonotic diseases,” she said.

As these new veterinary doctors embark on their careers, they are encouraged to commit to lifelong learning and stay updated on advancements in the field, ensuring they remain at the forefront of veterinary medicine.
