UNILORIN Launches 'Egbewole Hostel' Project to Address Student Accommodation Shortages

The University of Ilorin has initiated the construction of a new hostel project named 'Egbewole Hostel', spearheaded by the 36th Students’ Union leadership. This 10-bedroom bungalow will accommodate 40 students and aims to alleviate the university's accommodation challenges.

The University of Ilorin's Students' Union has launched a significant initiative with the commencement of a new hostel project named 'Egbewole Hostel'. This project, consisting of a 10-bedroom bungalow with 40 bed spaces, was officially initiated by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN. The sod-turning ceremony took place on Friday, July 12, 2024, marking a milestone for student-led infrastructure development at the institution.

Prof. Egbewole praised the Students' Union for their proactive approach in addressing accommodation challenges faced by the student community. He emphasized the critical role of adequate accommodation in enhancing student welfare and overall academic experience. The Vice Chancellor also highlighted the university's support for the project and encouraged student involvement from relevant academic departments to ensure its successful completion.

Mr Adesunkanmi Joseph Ologundudu, the 36th President of the Student Union, expressed gratitude to Prof. Egbewole for his guidance and support towards realizing the hostel project. He noted that this initiative signifies a departure in scale and impact from previous student union projects, aiming to establish a lasting legacy of enhanced student welfare.

The Director of the Physical Planning Unit (PPU), Q.S. Toyin Jimoh, affirmed the Students' Union's commitment to overseeing the project meticulously to ensure quality and timely completion. He underscored the potential of the hostel to contribute to the university's Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) while alleviating accommodation shortages.

The event was attended by university dignitaries including the Deputy Vice Chancellors and the Registrar, underscoring the institutional support and significance of the project to the university community.
