UNILORIN VC Prof Egbewole Praises POGSASS Leadership at Empowering Summit
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Egbewole, praised the Postgraduate Students’ Association (POGSASS) for its exemplary leadership during the recent Leadership Summit.
The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof. Wahab Olasupo Egbewole, SAN, has commended the leadership of the Postgraduate Students’ Association (POGSASS) for their exemplary leadership and purpose. Prof. Egbewole made this remark during the POGSASS Leadership Summit themed "Empowering the Future: Leadership in a Dynamic World," which took place last Thursday.
Represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Management Services), Prof. Suleiman Funsho Ambali, Prof. Egbewole expressed his pleasure that the event was held despite the prevailing national sentiment. He highlighted that POGSASS had recently invited the University management to similar events, showcasing the vision, competence, and resilience of its leadership.

Prof. Egbewole emphasized the importance of leadership at all levels within the university community and encouraged Nigerian leaders to engage in introspective conversations on leadership failures. He noted that the POGSASS summit provided an essential forum for such discussions.
In his address, the Dean of the Postgraduate School, Prof. Bamidele Victor Owoyele, praised the University of Ilorin as the "University of Choice" for postgraduate candidates, citing a hundred percent increase in applications for postgraduate programs. He also commended the POGSASS President for impactful initiatives, including the publication of the POGSASS Academic Journal.

Delivering the keynote address, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State Governor, Mallam Rafiu Ajakaye, underscored the importance of education, empathy, courage, and character in contemporary leadership. He noted that technological advancements, new media, and demographic shifts are reshaping the leadership landscape. Mallam Ajakaye also reflected on the 2020 ENDSARS protests in Kwara State, highlighting their significance as a historical imperative for the government.
The POGSASS President, Mr. Toyin Isiaq Abdullahi, appreciated his Executive Committee members for their cooperation and thanked the Vice Chancellor for his unwavering support. Abdullahi expressed gratitude to past and present Deans of the Postgraduate School and other supporting staff for their contributions to the school's progress and student welfare.
The event featured the presentation of awards and was attended by notable figures, including the immediate past Dean of the School and Director of the Centre for Leadership and Management, Prof. Moji Taibat Bakare-Odunola.
